This red velvet cake is based off of the recipe for The Most Amazing Chocolate Cake so there are some similarities, but there are also several key differences that gives Red Velvet Cake its unique flavor and texture.

The reason this is a super moist red velvet cake is because of the balance between the oil and the butter.

Adding oil to a recipe helps it stay moist for a longer period of time.

This is because, as opposed to butter, it lacks water so it won't evaporate and dry out your cake.

For Cake: Mix together flour, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl; set aside.

Moist red velvet cake step by step

  1. Preheat oven to 350.

  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt in a bowl.

  3. In a small bowl mix the cocoa and food coloring to form a paste..

  4. In a large bowl mix with a hand mixer. the butter and sugar until fluffy..

  5. Beat in eggs one at a time then beat in the cocoa paste.

  6. Add 1/3 flour mixture to butter mixture,.

  7. Then 1/2 buttermilk, 1/3 flour mixture, second half butter milk then final 1/3 flour mixture.

  8. In small bowl mix vinegar and baking soda (it should fizz).

  9. Mix baking soda mixture into cake batter. mix well then quickly divide into cake pans.

  10. Grease your pan with a cooking spray or butter and Bake 30 - 35 minutes OR until a table knife inserted comes out clean. and leave to cool..

  11. GLAZE- mix 2/3 cup milk with 1/2 cup sugar in saucepan. bring to boil..

  12. Then pour and spread over the cooled cake. (it makes the even more moist and gives a nice base for frosting)..

In a separate large bowl cream together the sugar, buttermilk, eggs and vegetable oil.

Add the flour mixture to the buttermilk mixture and mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon; add vanilla, red food coloring and vinegar and mix well.
