Ingredients of Drumstick curry

  1. You need 1 of big bowl toor dal.

  2. It’s 2 of drumsticks (sehjan).

  3. You need 4 of kokam 1 big tomato.

  4. Prepare 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds.

  5. It’s 1/2 tsp of cummin seeds.

  6. It’s 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder.

  7. Prepare Pinch of asafoetida.

  8. It’s 8/10 of curry leaves.

  9. You need 2 tsp of homemade kanda lasun masala.

  10. It’s 1/2 inch of ginger.

  11. You need 4/5 of garlic cloves.

  12. Prepare 2 tsp of grated dry coconut.

  13. You need 2 tsp of oil.

  14. Prepare as per taste of Salt.

  15. Prepare of Small size jaggery.

Drumstick curry, also known as drumstick palya, is made by parboiling the leaves and then cooking them with spices.

The curry recipe I'm going to show you here is very simple.

Drumstick curry is a traditional curry made down south in onion tomato gravy.

Drumstick curry step by step

  1. Wash and pressure cook the toor dal along with water for 3/4 whistles..

  2. Cool down and keep aside..

  3. Grind ginger garlic coconut to a smooth paste..

  4. Meanwhile cut drumsticks into lengthwise, remove its skin & boil along with water & pinch of salt. Do not over cook..

  5. Heat 2 tsp of oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, cummin seeds and let them crackle..

  6. Add asafoetida, turmeric powder, curry leaves, grind paste & kanda lasun masala. Saute for a minute..

  7. Add cooked dal, mix well..

  8. Add water as per consistency of dal. It should not be too thick or thin..

  9. When its boil add kokum, jaggery, salt & boiled drumsticks..

  10. Cook for 5 minutes..

  11. Serve with hot steam rice..

It can be served along with rice and its a popular dish made using drumsticks called as mulakkada/munagakaya in telugu.
