Recipe: Appetizing Jackfruit Pulao Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Jackfruit Pulao. If only I could count the number of ways to make Kathal! Having grown up where we had Jackfruit trees in our backyard, we had to make dishes that everyone has heard of and some of them we just invented along the way. Kathal Pulao, Biryani, kebabs, pickles, subzi, jams, kheers or payasams….and the list is just endless.

The entire pulao is made in a pot and so you don't need a pressure cooker.

You have to cook the jackfruit first.

Either you saute, steam or deep fry them.

You can cook Jackfruit Pulao using 24 ingredients and 8 steps. Here is how you achieve it.

Ingredients of Jackfruit Pulao

  1. Prepare 300-400 gms of raw jackfruit, cut into small cubes.

  2. It’s 1 & 1/2 cups of Basmati rice, soaked for 30 minutes.

  3. You need 2 tbsp. of oil.

  4. It’s 2 tbsp. of ghee.

  5. You need 1 tsp. of cumin seeds.

  6. Prepare 2 of bay leaves.

  7. It’s 1 inch of cinnamon stick.

  8. Prepare 2-3 of green cardamoms.

  9. It’s 4-5 of cloves.

  10. It’s 1 of onion, sliced.

  11. You need 1 tsp. of ginger-garlic paste.

  12. It’s 1/2 tsp. of turmeric powder.

  13. It’s to taste of salt.

  14. You need 1 tbsp. of coriander-cumin powder.

  15. It’s 1 tsp. of garam masala powder.

  16. It’s pinch of nutmeg powder.

  17. Prepare 1 tbsp. of red chilli powder.

  18. It’s 1 of tomato, chopped.

  19. Prepare 2-3 tbsp. of yoghurt.

  20. Prepare 1 cup of coriander-mint leaves, chopped.

  21. You need 8-10 of almonds.

  22. You need 2-3 of green chilies.

  23. It’s 2 cups of hot water.

  24. It’s as needed of chopped almond, mint, dry rose petals, pomegranate pearls and fried onions (opt).

For handi dum cover with lid, seal with chapati dough.

Today i have an exotic , flavorful , delicious pulao made from a seasonal veggie - Raw jack fruit.

Hearing about my today's dish my mom's first reaction was " Pulao ? !!!

Out of jack fruit.!!! ?? ".

Jackfruit Pulao instructions

  1. Boil or pressure cook the raw jackfruit cubes till soft, but al dente. Heat 1 tbsp. oil in a pan and saute the jackfruit till it turns slightly brown in colour. Keep aside..

  2. Heat remaining oil & ghee and temper with bay leaves, whole garam masala and cumin seeds. Saute for a few seconds..

  3. Add the onion and stir fry till light brown. Add the ginger-garlic paste & all the dry spices mixed with some water. Saute till the oil separates..

  4. Add the chopped tomatoes and continue to saute till it is mashed. Add the yoghurt, followed by the chopped greens. Saute till almost dry..

  5. Add the fried jackfruit, soaked rice and almonds..

  6. Mix everything well and add 2 cups hot water along with the green chilies. Give it a stir and pressure cook for 2 whistles..

  7. Let the pressure release by itself. Then fluff it up with a fork..

  8. Garnish with all the garnishings as mentioned above and serve with raita and salad for a sumptuous meal..

I know most of the South Indian's would react the same way hearing it.
