Moongre (Radish Pod) Aaloo. How To Make Potato Redish Pods. In today's recipe I will be showing you how to make aloo moongre ki sabzi. Radish pods are referred to as moongre and its usually made with potatoes hence. 'Radish pods' are known as Moongre, Sengri, Mogri or Sogri in different parts of North India and Mulyachya shenga, Dingrya across Maharashtra. 'Aloo' is a Hindi name for potatoes.

In Punjabi cuisine they make many types of dry sabzi with potatoes like Aloo gobi, Aloo capsicum, Aloo baingan, Aloo methi etc.

Sengri/ Moongre or mongre is the pod of Radish and is available in winter season only.

This Sengri ki phali is popular in North India specially in Uttar Pradesh.

You can cook Moongre (Radish Pod) Aaloo using 15 ingredients and 9 steps. Here is how you achieve that.

Ingredients of Moongre (Radish Pod) Aaloo

  1. It’s 2 of medium size potatoes cubed.

  2. You need 1/2 kg of moongre (Radish Pod)wash and cut into 2 pieces.

  3. You need 1 tsp of Ginger paste.

  4. Prepare 2 of tomatoes chopped.

  5. You need 1 of oinon chopped.

  6. It’s 1 tbsp of red chilli powder.

  7. You need 1 tsp of zeera powder.

  8. Prepare 1 tsp of coriander powder.

  9. Prepare 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder.

  10. You need to taste of Salt.

  11. You need 3 tbsp of milk.

  12. It’s Pinch of asafoetida (hing).

  13. You need 1/2 cup of oil.

  14. It’s of Garnishing.

  15. It’s leaves of Green chilli and green coriander.

These radish pods looks quite similar to French beans but are very different taste wise.

The taste of sengri is quite pungent like radish.

Radish pods are rich in ascorbic acid, folic acid, and potassium.

These nutritious pods or beans must be added in the regular menu to get the essential nutrients.

Moongre (Radish Pod) Aaloo instructions

  1. Wash the moongre. Cut off both the ends and cut into 2 pieces. Peel rinse and Cube the potatoes..

  2. Heat oil in a pan add oinon fry golden brown..

  3. Add ginger paste and tomatoes and cook 2 minutes till tomato soft..

  4. Add dry ingredients and hing mix well..

  5. Add moongre and potatoes and mix well..

  6. Add milk and one cup of water and cover with lid for 15 minutes low heat..

  7. Check the vegetable have turned soft if no cover and cook for few more minutes add green chilli and green coriander leaves..

  8. Take it off heat..

  9. Serve hot with roti or naan sprinkle the Garam Masala (All spices) and enjoy the delicious food..
